We would like to thank all friends and collectors on behalf of Japingka Gallery for their support and enthusiasm during the year. We look forward to a restful few weeks over the festive season but we are happy to advise that the gallery will remain open throughout the summer break. We trust you will have a creative and recuperative holiday season, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year. However, if you happen to be entertaining guests over this time, and knowing that there is no place like Fremantle to relax and enjoy, we hope that you will drop in to see us between lunch and coffee. There will still be new things to see. Best regards

Linda Syddick

We were pleased once again to have had Linda Syddick staying in Fremantle while visiting for the opening of her exhibition in mid November. Linda painted several new pieces during her stay, which were fascinating to observe and very bold in their execution. We thought it appropriate to include her image of the three wise men arriving to visit the child in the manger. Linda says that the desert sand hills pattern in the background shows that it is a story told by a desert dweller. Click here for more information and images.

Wangkatjungka Artists

Returning from an October/ November visit to Wangkatjungka community, David brought back a fine group of paintings. It has been a difficult year for the artists group in the community, with two artists passing away during the year, and another two losing family members under difficult circumstances. Rallying with the strong support of the Community school, seven of the artists created new canvases which will go on exhibition next year. An unseasonally early rainstorm had the artists plunging into a series of paintings of desert rains and desert re-growth. Click here to see the paintings.

Anna Petyarre

Anna Petyarre enjoyed a week's holiday visit to the West to coincide with the showing of her most recent paintings. The paintings continue to draw wide spread attention and sales. We are happy to say that Anna's work will go on display in Sydney in early January. The paintings work equally well on both a large and small scale, with the fine dot work creating a shimmering account of the riverbeds and sand hills of the country around her homelands. Alyawarra artists

Our thanks go to the artists of the Northern Alyawarra communities and to John and Ros Mero for facilitating the current exhibition of their work. The exhibition will stay open through to mid January. The artists remain very buoyant both about the positive outcomes of their painting activities in the community and the warm response that their work received in the gallery. We look forward to further exhibitions with this group of artists. Click here for more information and images.
